Pigtails from mutineers on the HMS Bounty

Pigtails from mutineers on the HMS Bounty

Hair samples from purported members of the infamous “Mutiny on the Bounty” and their Polynesian companions are going to be forensically analysed in order to help identify whose hair it is. The process will use mitochondrial DNA because it is not possible to get enough nuclear DNA to identify autosomal DNA. Therefore, the information retrieved will only be able to ascertain deep ancestry of the owner’s matrilinear ancestral haplogroup.
